Tankwa Tented Camp

Incredible place! A campsite (R110/pp), tents, chalets (with ensuite bathroom), bar and restaurant in a middle of nowhere. Frequented by friendly and fun locals, especially over the weekend. Sometimes a band would play here.

This place has an apocalyptic feel to it and is a home to the yearly AfrikaBurn festival (like the Burning Man in the US). The structures from the festival still stand all around the territory. Never saw anything like this before, probably the coolest venue we have visited coming from Europe to Cape Town… Very rustic, cozy and basic. Though, in the middle of a desert, so don’t expect much luxury 🙂

Run by incredibly helpful and friendly people.
You have to ask for a “snuff” at the bar!

No cellphone reception, but there is a reasonable wifi for a fee.

There is a tyre shop and they also always have some fuel for the bikes.

In my opinion, this is a must see place while in South Africa.
